Public Sector Procurement Event Presentations

WRAP Cymru hosted events in November 2019, for public sector organisations in Wales, to showcase how more sustainable goods and services can be procured.

The Welsh public sector spends approximately £6 billion each year on goods and services. As such, there is significant scope for public bodies to use procurement positively to achieve beneficial environmental, economic and social outcomes and to help deliver the ‘Wales We Want’ objectives of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.

These events provided valuable information to assist in introducing or improving approaches to sustainable procurement, which is taking on ever-increasing importance in the context of Welsh Government’s ‘Prosperity for All: A Low Carbon Wales’ strategy and the decarbonisation target.

Delegates heard from a range of speakers and were given an overview of WRAP Cymru’s new sustainable procurement guidance, which public bodies in Wales can draw upon to tackle the ‘plastics challenge’ and make evidence-based purchasing decisions for all products containing plastic. Attendees also had the opportunity to seek expert advice on a one-to-one basis and enquire about WRAP Cymru’s free sustainable procurement support.
