Preparation for re-use is the act of taking waste, preparing it for re-use and putting it back into the economy. This Roadmap, with a supporting technical report, sets out the potential actions and interventions required to support increasing the amount of preparation for re-use that takes place in Wales within the local authority collected municipal waste stream.

Waste Composition
In order to develop a solution to the issues created by waste, it is important to know what the waste is made up of. To address this, WRAP Cymru has commissioned analyses into the composition of municipal waste and litter.

Wales has achieved great success in recycling and has come a long way in improving the recycling of plastics from households, achieving a 75% recycling rate for plastic bottles. It was also the first nation in the UK to introduce a single use carrier bag charge. However, there’s still work to do.

Prior to WRAP Cymru’s involvement, EcoKeg was wholly reliant on a single source of recycled HDPE. In order to mitigate this risk, WRAP Cymru explored other feedstock sources, identifying and engaging with alternative suppliers.

During 2017, the City and County of Swansea Council embarked upon an agile working programme, which will eventually move 1,400 employees based in the Swansea Civic Centre from traditional individual offices and desk allocation to a flexible working environment.

The Climate Change Impacts of Recycling Services in Wales report was published by WRAP Cymru on behalf of the Welsh Government, based on work undertaken by Eunomia between December 2015 and August 2016.

Summary
During 2016 Public Health Wales (PHW) relocated from several smaller satellite offices across Wales to one new large open plan office in Cardiff Bay (51,000sft over 4 floors) incorporating the transfer of around 500 staff. PHW wanted to create a unique workplace environment designed to encourage a collaborative, social and learning focused workspace which embedded sustainability as a core principle.
