Summary

Environmental impacts are increasingly important in procuring school milk services and must be considered alongside the contract cost and other procurement criteria.

This study was conducted to provide Welsh Government and WRAP Cymru up-to-date data on the composition of mixed residual commercial and industrial (C&I) waste in Wales. The main objective was to estimate the proportion of the residual waste produced in Wales which could be avoided through recycling or composting.

The research summarised in this case study was borne from the desire by several schools in Pembrokeshire to move from plastic to alternative materials for the dispensing of milk to primary school children on a daily basis.
