Through Welsh Government funded support for sustainable public sector procurement, WRAP Cymru has developed new guidance providing an overview of whole life costing (WLC) and how it can help public bodies in Wales achieve their sustainable procurement goals.

In 2021, the Welsh Government unveiled its ambitious 'Beyond Recycling Strategy,' a blueprint for transforming Wales into a circular economy. To gauge citizen behaviours and track progress in re-use, repair, and rental/leasing, WRAP has revamped its 2015 3Rs (Reduce, Re-use, Recycle) survey.

Unlocking the Future of Plastic Film Recycling in the UK: A Groundbreaking Trial

The Recycling Tracker is an annual survey of UK households that gathers evidence on recycling attitudes, knowledge, and behaviour. ​It is the largest and longest running of its kind, having been undertaken by WRAP since 2004. ​

The survey uses boost sampling in Wales to provide a robust, enhanced sample of Welsh citizens. Fieldwork was undertaken online, from 20 - 30 March 2023. A total of 5,343 interviews were undertaken UK-wide with adults who have responsibility for dealing with the rubbish and recycling in the home. This included a sample of 1,004 adults in Wales. The sample matches the known profile of the Welsh population, with quotas set on age, gender and region.

Waste Composition

In order to develop a solution to the issues created by waste, it is important to know what the waste is made up of.  To address this, WRAP Cymru has commissioned analyses into the composition of municipal waste and litter.

Circular Procurement Guidance

Through Welsh government funded support for sustainable public sector procurement, WRAP has developed new circular procurement guidance on giving furniture a second life.

The water quality issues facing the waters of the Wye and Usk catchments are well researched and documented and frequently reported in local, regional and national press. This brief document does not set out to illustrate the need for making changes in nutrient management in the catchment, but instead starts from the point of accepting that changes need to be made to current practices and to look at what is already being done as well as undertaking a brief review of where similar problems at a catchment scale have been addressed in other countries.

WRAP and Recycle Now's recycling tracker provides insights into UK citizen’s attitudes towards recycling as well as a greater understanding of their recycling related behaviours. New Welsh Food Waste Roadmap from WRAP identifies a suite of interventions which could deliver reductions in food waste across the supply chain. A comprehensive review of evidence identifies how the mechanisms can work and have worked when applied elsewhere in the world.
