WRAP was established as a not-for-profit company in 2000; we became a charity in 2014.
We promote and encourage sustainable resource use through product design, waste minimisation, re-use, recycling and reprocessing of waste materials. We work across six continents with governments, businesses and citizens to create a world where resources are sourced and used sustainably.
Our values are what makes us: Sustainability, Honesty, Integrity, Fairness, and Teamwork.
In addition to our UK-wide and international work, we deliver a Wales-specific package of work to support the Welsh Government’s environmental goals under the name WRAP Cymru.
Tackling the entire system
Tackling a single part of an issue can just move the problem elsewhere. We take a holistic approach, consider the whole system and create solutions that work together.
For example, WRAP Cymru’s Market Development Programme is in place to increase both the supply of, and demand for, products containing recycled content in Wales. We support the use of recycled material in manufacturing via the Circular Economy Fund and demonstration projects, and we work with the public sector to increase the procurement of sustainable goods.
Operating in parallel is our Collaborative Change Programme, which assists Welsh local authorities to meet their statutory recycling targets. This is supplemented by our Wales Recycles campaign, which encourages citizens to adopt positive recycling behaviours.
