The way we live today is damaging our planet
We’ve seen rising greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity loss, and pollution of our planet. Some of the changes are already irreversible.
The world currently uses 1.7 planets’ worth of resources every year. So, the challenge is how do we raise the global population out of poverty while reducing our demand on resources to a level that one planet can sustain?
WRAP’s focus areas are food and drink, plastic packaging, clothing and textiles, and collections and reprocessing.
WRAP Cymru is supporting Wales’ shift towards a truly circular economy, where waste is eliminated and resources are kept in use for as long as possible. As well as being good for the environment, a fully circular economy could create up to 30,000 new jobs and deliver annual savings of up to £1.9billion in materials costs alone.
By developing a circular economy for Wales, we can help reduce the demand for natural resources to a level that could sustainably be met by the planet. Crucially, it also has the potential to satisfy the needs of the growing world population without compromising future generations to meet their needs.
