This document is aimed at procurement teams, senior management, procurement services, facilities and operational management, elected members and waste teams within national and local government, health, education, emergency services and other public sector bodies. It provides basic information that public bodies in Wales can draw upon and use to tackle the environmental impact of plastic.

Summary

Environmental impacts are increasingly important in procuring school milk services and must be considered alongside the contract cost and other procurement criteria.

The research summarised in this case study was borne from the desire by several schools in Pembrokeshire to move from plastic to alternative materials for the dispensing of milk to primary school children on a daily basis.

In partnership with WRAP Cymru, the NPS embarked on a process to manage the sustainability impacts associated with a new food services framework, and demonstrate their commitment to the delivery of Well-being goals.

During 2017, the City and County of Swansea Council embarked upon an agile working programme, which will eventually move 1,400 employees based in the Swansea Civic Centre from traditional individual offices and desk allocation to a flexible working environment.

The Welsh Government administers legislative requirements for environmental protection across Wales, so when it was offered advice from WRAP to assess and improve on its own systems, it was keen to take advantage of the support.

Summary

During 2016 Public Health Wales (PHW) relocated from several smaller satellite offices across Wales to one new large open plan office in Cardiff Bay (51,000sft over 4 floors) incorporating the transfer of around 500 staff. PHW wanted to create a unique workplace environment designed to encourage a collaborative, social and learning focused workspace which embedded sustainability as a core principle.
