Wales Recycles: How is it recycled? Videos and printable assets

This suite of videos and printable assets may be used by local authorities and other organisations that would like to encourage citizens to recycle more of their waste from home, by educating them about what happens to their recycling once collected.

For each of the following seven key recyclable materials, we’ve produced a range of assets for you to use:

  • Metal cans and tins
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays
  • Cardboard
  • Paper
  • Food waste
  • Garden waste

Assets include:

1. Full-length videos – embedded links to full-length videos (around 5 minutes each) with subtitles hosted on our Wales Recycles’ YouTube channel, which you may use on your website and YouTube channels. Each video covers:

  • each material’s recycling process and its end use,
  • a nod to recycling being a social norm,
  • a reference to the effect of not recycling on climate change and the sense of loss if these items aren’t captured/recycled,
  • a recycling fact for each material,
  • some priority ‘yes please’ / ‘no thank you’ lists and contamination messaging,
  • a ‘thank you for continuing to do the right thing and for doing your bit for the environment’ message, and
  • how to get more information.

If you’d like to include these full-length videos in a presentation, or play these at an event or in a public area, please contact us at WalesRecycles@wrap.org.uk

2. Short videos – shorter cuts (around 1 minute each) of our full-length videos in MP4 format, which you may use on your social media channels. These focus primarily on the specific recycling process and end use for each of the key materials. Each video is available in the following dimensions:

  • landscape (16:9) – for Twitter and YouTube accounts
  • portrait (9:16) – for Facebook and Instagram accounts
  • square (1:1) – for paid social media

There are separate Welsh and English language versions of each video and all have subtitles.

3.    Video transcripts – these are the scripts for each of the full-length videos, which you may use to create supporting copy when using the shorter cuts on your social media channels. For example, you may choose to use the ‘yes please’ / ‘no thank you’ lists, the contamination messaging, and the climate change messaging, in your supporting copy when posting the shorter cuts.

4.    Infographic-style information sheets – these present the key content from each video, as a clear, self-explanatory, and easy-to-understand standalone asset in PDF format. There are separate Welsh and English language versions of each information sheet, and you may print these in A3/A4.
