Circular Procurement Guidance
Through Welsh government funded support for sustainable public sector procurement, WRAP has developed new circular procurement guidance on giving furniture a second life.
The Welsh Government’s Beyond Recycling strategy aims to make the circular economy a reality for Wales, deliver net zero, and accelerate the move to a more sustainable, resource efficient circular economy. To achieve this, we need to dramatically increase the amount of materials that are re-used or recycled and reduce our reliance on virgin materials.
This guidance provides procurement teams with practical steps to take to procure second life furniture. Furniture products should be assessed not just on price and performance, but also on their environmental and social impact. A life cycle costing approach to procurement which considers the impact throughout the entire life of the product, from extracting the raw materials to final product disposal. The guide can be used for reference in the overall procurement process, and at any point throughout it.
